Darren Waller is seeking a new deal but his focus is strictly on football now

With the 2022 NFL season kicking off this week for the Las Vegas Raiders, a big storyline to follow is the Darren Waller contract situation.

The 29-year-old has developed into one of the best tight ends in the league and should play a big role in the Raiders’ offense once again. However, he’s seeking a long-term extension to keep him in Las Vegas and he wants to be paid like a top tight end.  While the Raiders and Waller haven’t reached an agreement just yet, the tight end says he’s just focusing on football for now.

“We’ll see, man,” Waller said of getting a new deal, via The Athletic. “There’s not really a lot of things that I can control, you know? I have faith in my representation. Whether it goes one way or it doesn’t, I’ll be playing football. I’ll just let it happen how it does.”

That’s good news for Raiders fans and Waller. Things could be a whole lot worse as we’ve seen in other situations including the Chicago Bears not getting a deal done with star linebacker Roquan Smith.

Waller has been a professional about it all and while he does want to get paid, the focus is on football and the Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Now lets hope a deal gets done and Waller is here to stay.
