The Las Vegas Raiders are parting ways with a quarterback one day before the team takes on the Dallas Cowboys in their second preseason game. The Raiders are set to have their final showdown of the quarterback battle between Gardner Minshew and Adrian O’Connell.
The Las Vegas Raiders have a critical game on Saturday
Head coach Antonio Pierce recently said he has enough on tape to determine who will be the QB1 this season. He wanted to see how Minshew and O’Connell would play against the Cowboys before declaring a starter for Week 1 of the regular season.
However, the Raiders have made a few changes to the quarterback roster this week behind Minshew and O’Connell.
The Raiders signed Nathan Peterman this week
On Tuesday, the Raiders announced they signed veteran quarterback Nathan Peterman to the roster. Peterman is now in his second stint with the Raiders organization. He’s unlikely to make the 53-man roster, but he could be a valuable backup on the practice squad this season.
The Raiders released Anthony Brown Jr.
According to Jesse Merrick with KSNV, the Raiders released Anthony Brown Jr. The Raiders decided they had no need for Brown after signing Peterman.
The Baltimore Ravens signed Brown, a former quarterback at Oregon, as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He appeared in two games and started in one for the Ravens in 2022 when Lamar Jackson was out with an injury. Brown went 22/49 passing for 302 yards and two interceptions for the Ravens.
Brown was released from the Ravens in September of 2023. He signed with the Raiders in January.
