The Las Vegas Raiders had a quarterback battle this week to determine who would get the start in Week 6. Head coach Antonio Pierce announced the results of the battle on Wednesday.

The 2-3 Raiders are set to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, a team that has had questions about their quarterback plans with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.

The Raiders came into the regular season understanding their quarterback situation wasn’t great. Gardner Minshew has gone 99-for-140 passing for 1,014 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions through the first five weeks of the season.

Minshew was benched in the Raiders’ 34-18 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 5. After throwing a pick-six, Minshew was benched for Aidan O’Connell for the second time in the season.

Per Vic Tafur of The Athletic, the Pierce is giving O’Connell the start, the first for him of the season.

The former Purdue signal-caller went 5-5 for the Raiders as a rookie last season. He’s 232-375 passing for 2,394 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in his NFL career.
