Las Vegas will become the new home for the Oakland A’s
Rejoice Las Vegas! I On Thursday, MLB owners officially approved the relocation of the Oakland A’s to Las Vegas as Sin City will have a new professional sports team.
With rumors swirling for months about relocation, the vote took place on Thursday and passed unanimously among owners.
The move was approved but we should note that it’s not yet finalized as Jeff Passan of ESPN writes:
The move is not yet finalized. Legal challenges from a teachers union in Nevada regarding the $380 million the state has committed to the construction of a $1.5 billion stadium on the Las Vegas Strip still could scuttle the move, but winning approval from owners marks a significant step toward Oakland losing its last major men’s professional sports team.

Where will the A’s play after 2024?
The A’s lease in Oakland is up after the 2024 season and with a new stadium not being done until 2028 there are some questions as to where they will play in the years in between. So one solution could be upstate in Reno.
The city is currently home to the Aces, a Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. But the stadium size there wouldn’t be compared to other options.
The option of staying in Oakland to play those three seasons is on the table as well. That should be a big discussion point moving forward as things become finalized.
