Raiders have “no desire” to trade Josh Jacobs

Is Josh Jacobs on the trade block? Head coach Josh McDaniels clears the air about the rumors

It was a little odd to see running back Josh Jacobs earn some carries in Thursday’s Hall of Fame game against Jacksonville. Especially when starters don’t usually play in the game.

But with Jacobs getting seven touches and playing on a few drives, the rumors began to swirl if the running back was on the trade block or not. And now, a few days later McDaniels has cleared the air.

The head coach told reporters that Jacobs is NOT being shopped ahead of the season:

“We have a lot of confidence in J.J.,” McDaniels said, via ESPN’s Kimberley A. Martin. “We have no desire to do that at all.”

The former first-round pick out of Alabama did not have his fifth-year option picked up and now will be a free agent at season’s end barring a deal with the Raiders. He’s coming off a 2021 campaign in which he had 1,220 yards from scrimmage and nine total touchdowns.

Jacobs also carries a very small cap hit at $2.12 million and is expected to be the lead back in a stable of running backs at the position. In addition to Jacobs, Las Vegas has  Brandon Bolden, Ameer Abdullah and rookie Zamir White.

While Jacobs appears to be the lead back right now, his future in Vegas is a little murky and something to monitor moving forward.
