Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is missing OTA’s after having foot surgery

The Las Vegas Raiders are on the practice field this week for the start of OTA’s as the offseason workouts continue on. But with the Raiders out there, one key player is absent.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is absent from practices as he’s recovering from offseason surgery on his left foot. Garoppolo had the surgery in March after signing with Las Vegas for a left foot injury he suffered with the San Francisco 49ers last season.

The Athletic writes that Garoppolo could be out until at least the start of training camp:

Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is not participating in the team’s OTA practices this week as he continues to recover from the left foot injury he suffered late last season, coach Josh McDaniels said Thursday. While McDaniels declined to discuss specifics, team and league sources said Garoppolo had surgery in March after signing with the Raiders. His recovery timeline from that procedure is unknown, although McDaniels acknowledged he “could be” out until at least training camp.

“He’s going through his process just like we knew he would,” McDaniels said Thursday. “Nothing has happened that would surprise us based on the information we had.”

After the Raiders closed the door on Derek Carr, they made the move to sign Garoppolo. That’s taken a  detour with this surgery.  He’s now missing reps at OTA’s in his first year with the offense.

The Garoppolo injury news will be something to monitor as the offseason goes on. But this is certainly not great news for the start of his career here in Vegas.
