On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Raiders announced they trimmed their roster to 53 players. The Raiders had until 4 PM EST to cut their 90-man roster to 53 players. The Raiders cut a veteran quarterback and wide receiver to narrow the roster to 53 players.

The Raiders announced they cut Nathan Peterman, bringing the number of quarterbacks on their roster down to two. (The Raiders also cut Carter Bradley.) Head coach Antonio Pierce will start Gardner Minshew, and Aidan O’Connell will be his backup.

Later this week, the Raiders will look to add a practice squad quarterback.

The Raiders signed Peterman in the preseason when they released Anthony Brown Jr. Peterman is familiar with the Raiders offense because he played for offensive coordinator Luke Getsy with the Chicago Bears in the previous two seasons.

Peterman and Bradley could return to the Raiders’ practice squad if they clear the waiver wire. The Raiders could look for outside help on waivers. However, one would assume the Raiders will try to sign Peterman to the practice squad because of his ties to Getsy.

    The Raiders cut Jalen Guyton

The Raiders made a surprising move when they released Jalen Guyton. Guyton is now in his sixth season in the league. He has 71 receptions for 1,112 yards and seven touchdowns during that span. While he’s not a starter, he could have provided valuable depth to the Raiders offense.

Guyton finished the preseason with six receptions for 51 yards.

Amari Gainer made the 53-man roster

One undrafted free agent completed his underdog story to make the Raiders 53-man roster. Linebacker Amari Gainer survived Tuesday’s cuts.

Gainer made outstanding plays during the preseason and led the team in tackles against the San Francisco 49ers last week. Now that he’s on the team, Gainer will need to impress the staff on special teams during the season.

Maybe he can earn more responsibility with rotational reps as the season goes on.
