Davante Adams: Las Vegas Raiders are better off without me

New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams talked to the press on Wednesday. It was the first time he spoke to the media since the Las Vegas Raiders traded him to the Jets. He had a few interesting takes about moving on from the Raiders.

A trade felt like it was in the works since the offseason

Adams’ trade to the Jets wasn’t a surprise to the NFL world. Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers had been suggesting a reunion between himself and Adams since the summer. Frankly, the Raiders shouldn’t have been too surprised at the fallout with the team and Adams.

Adams initially wanted to join a West Coast team when he parted ways with the Green Bay Packers. He chose the Raiders because he wanted to team up with his former college quarterback at Fresno State, Derek Carr. Las Vegas decided to pull the plug on the Carr experiment after the 2022 season.

Adams didn’t seem to enjoy his time with the Raiders once Carr fled to the New Orleans Saints.

On Wednesday, Adams admitted he was happy to be with the Jets and thinks the Raiders are better off without him.

It’s been a rollercoaster for sure,” Adams said, via video on X from SNY Jets videos. “It’s a weird thing to say that I’m happy, but obviously, it was time for a change. This whole thing kind of transpired a little weird, but at the end of the day, we’re in a better place. I think the Raiders are in a better place as well. Everybody can kind of move on. But definitely [has] been a rollercoaster. It was a little bit up and down and left and right, here and there, but we ultimately got it done.”

It’s hard to see how the Raiders’ offense will be better off without their WR1. Quarterbacks Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew haven’t played well without him on the field.

Adams recorded 18 receptions for 209 yards and one touchdown in the three games he played for Las Vegas this season. Adams had a hamstring issue that kept him out of the other three regular season games. His hamstring issue dissipated following the trade, and he’s expected to play for the Jets on Sunday.
